The Student Association is currently accepting applications for Senate positions.

Braxton Stowe, Senate president and SA Vice President, said he is very excited about Senate elections.

"The Senate is going to be very involved on campus this year," he said. "We want everyone to get involved with the Senate and help get things accomplished."

The SA works directly with the university to help make decision regarding the student body.

"We pass laws and bills to help [serve] student interests," Stowe said. "One example is the new 'Loop' shuttle route. Last year, many students requested for a new shuttle route, so the Senate decided [to act on] their suggestions."

He said anyone who is looking to get involved with campus issues should apply for SA Senate.

"We want people who are willing to work to make changes around campus," Stowe said. "We need someone that has a desire to serve the students and wants to get involved."

Natalie Bullard, junior communication major and Senate member, said being on the Senate has provided her a great opportunity to leave a mark on her alma mater.

"[Membership provides] a wonderful way to know what is going on around campus and see the changes being made that you have a part in," she said. "I feel like we're really making a difference."

Bullard also said she has made many beneficial contacts by participating in the SA.

"I like being a part of Senate because I have made great connections with both students and faculty that may be able to help me in the future," she said.

Bailey Owens, SA codirector of public relations, said more students should get involved with student government.

"It is a great opportunity to help this university to continue to move in a positive direction," Owens said.

There will be a Senate interest meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. in Colvard Student Union Room 226. Elections will be held on Sept. 16.

Applications can be picked up at the SA office in the Colvard Student Union Room 314 or printed off of the SA Web site http://sa.msstate.edu. They are due Sept. 8 by 5 p.m.
