The SA Senate should be commended for passing a resolution that will take MSU one step closer to being a cleaner university.

The resolution calls for more recycling bins on campus. Currently, MSU only has containers for paper, cardboard and compost. This resolution wants to add containers for plastics, tin, paper and more aluminum, upgrade containers for cardboard and put containers at more buildings.

These are the small things that will help us a lot in the long run. However, not everyone feels that we should pursue a better recycling program.

Jim Jones, executive director of facilities, said the cost of MSU's recycling program is already at $40,000 a year. By expanding the program, the university will be taking funds away from other programs.

We don't think the economic issue is something to worry about. The changes that the SA has proposed are not gigantic and can easily be made.

It should be noted that the administration pushed for more conservation of energy last semester. But now some within the administration don't want to support more recycling.

If anything, we can use the money that Jeffrey Rupp won't be getting this year to support the resolution.
