Faculty Senate elects new officers
David Nagel replaces outgoing president Robert Wolverton

The Robert Holland Faculty Senate held elections for key positions in its April 11 meeting. Former Senate vice president David Nagel was elected president for the oncoming year, replacing outgoing president Robert Wolverton. Hart Bailey, a professor in the college of veterinary medicine, was elected the new vice president and Jacquelyn Deeds, professor of agricultural information science, was voted secretary. Sunday sales dialogue continues
Group says alcohol could increase revenue

While Mississippi state law permits the sale of alcohol on Sundays from noon to 10 p.m, a local Starkville ordinance has been in place for years banning Sunday sales. Better Starkville, a group of MSU students, Starkville citizens and business owners is at the forefront of the fight to allow Sunday alcohol sales. (2) comments

Members of the new Reflector staff, who officially took over Sunday, are easing into their new positions. The Reflector was named No. 1 newspaper in the South in 2007. Reflecting on the 2007 and 2008 year, outgoing editor in chief Tyler Stewart said the paper has evolved a lot this year, especially in design. (1) comment

Increasing textbook prices have caused the College Board to seek possible solutions to the nationwide problem. According to the Government Accountability Office, college textbook prices have doubled, nearly the rate of annual inflation. To address the growing problem of high textbook costs at Mississippi colleges, the College Board created the Textbook Task Force. (7) comments

Maroon VIP seeks students to help assist campus guests

Mississippi State's Welcome Center is in the process of developing a new welcoming committee for university visitors called Maroon Visitor Information Program. Students chosen to be members will assist at the Welcome Center and Colvard Student Union by manning the desks, answering phones and directing traffic on campus during events. (0) comments
