The sights and smells only enhanced the energetic atmosphere provided by the multicultural groups that gathered in the Junction Saturday. Clothing from around the world and the scent of a mixture of different spices added to the colorful environment. The World Neighbors Association and various other businesses, associations and individuals sponsored the 18th annual International Fiesta, which was held in the Mississippi State University Junction Saturday. Speculation was put to rest Friday when Mississippi State University Interim President Vance Watson issued a press release stating that incoming athletic director Greg Byrne, who was appointed in February and will fully assume his role on July 1, will be at the helm of the process of hiring the next head baseball coach. The Starkville Board of Aldermen has made a request to the Mississippi State Legislature to add an additional penny to the Starkville luxury tax in order to raise funds for a conference center. The current 2-percent luxury tax affects the food and beverage industry as well as hotels and motels. (0) comments

This week marks the first Unity Week for Mississippi State University. Many MSU campus organizations are responsible for sponsoring the event, which ranges from the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center to the Bagley College of Engineering.
