International Fiesta highlights world's diverse cultures, people

While many students would like to go away to another country with finals approaching fast, it is doubtful the opportunity will present itself. Mississippi has been declared America's least livable state by congressional article "State Rankings 2008," published by Congressional Quarterly Press. In the rankings, New Hampshire topped the list for the fifth consecutive year, while Mississippi has held last place for nine years. (0) comments

The College of Arts and Sciences is now offering a new gender studies minor. The program examines the construction of gender in a variety of cultures and in different historical epochs. Susan Rensing, co-advisor of the Ellen Bryant Women's Resource Center and gender studies program, said the program offers courses from a number of departments. (0) comments

Mississippi State University alumnus David May discussed the causes, preferences and sources of gun carrying in youths with students Thursday. "Kids and Guns: Why They Do It" was sponsored by the sociology, anthropology and social work department. May received a master's degree from MSU in 1994, followed by a doctorate in sociology, with an emphasis in criminology in 1997. (1) comment
